Your Invisalign journey

Here's what to expect at each stage of your Invisalign treatment with us, from your first scan through to a full year of aftercare.

1

Your consultation and 3D scan

It starts with one appointment. We take a digital iTero scan, so no messy moulds, along with photos and any x-rays you need. Your specialist orthodontist then looks at everything and tells you honestly whether Invisalign is the right choice for you, and you'll go through costs and payment options with our treatment coordinator on the same day.

2

See your new smile before you start

Using your scan, we build your ClinCheck: a 3D preview that shows how your teeth will move and what your smile will look like at the end. You get to see the result before you commit to anything, and this part can be done remotely if that's easier for you.

3

Your custom aligners are made

Once you're happy with the plan, your aligners are made to fit only you, usually within two to three weeks. They're made from smooth, clear SmartTrack plastic, so they're barely noticeable and comfortable to wear day to day.

4

Fitting and getting started

We fit your first set of aligners and, if your plan calls for them, small tooth-coloured attachments that help guide your teeth into place. You'll wear each set for around 22 hours a day, taking them out to eat, drink and brush. We won't send you off until you're completely confident with how everything works.

5

Quick, relaxed check-ins

Every four to six weeks you'll pop in so we can check your progress and hand over your next aligners. Appointments are short and easy, and because a specialist orthodontist is overseeing your treatment, anything that needs tweaking gets spotted early.

6

Your results, and a full year of aftercare

When your teeth are exactly where they should be, we fit your retainers to hold them there. And you're not left on your own afterwards: we monitor your smile for a full year after treatment, and if a bonded or removable retainer needs adjusting in that time, we put it right at no extra cost.

Invisalign First Reading - early treatment for young children

Invisalign First in Reading is a revolutionary orthodontic treatment designed for children whose teeth are still growing in.

If you want your child to benefit from Invisalign at an early age, Invisalign First may be the perfect solution.

The Invisalign First system offers unique features for dental arch expansion, creating room for incoming adult teeth.

Invisalign First can be used to treat various orthodontic conditions including crowding, spacing, arch development, and tooth and jaw misalignment. It works by expanding the dental arches, providing ample space for developing adult teeth.

1. Consultation

During your child’s consultation, we will assess your concerns, wants and needs. We will also take a 3D digital scan to show you a potential before and after of what your child’s teeth will look like.

2. ClinCheck

At this appointment, we will provide you with a more accurate and detailed visualisation of the tooth movement, including the number of attachments needed and any space requirements. This can be done remotely.

3. Fit

Once the ClinCheck is approved, the aligners will be manufactured within 2-3 weeks. A series of aligners will be fitted to start moving the teeth. We will then see your child regularly to monitor their Invisalign progress and growth.

Invisalign Teen in Reading - treatment for teenagers

We are pleased to offer Invisalign Teen treatments at our private practice in Reading, a popular solution for various smile issues in teens. Instead of brackets and wires, Invisalign® clear aligners are made of smooth, removable SmartTrack plastic, making them virtually invisible. This will allow your child to smile with confidence, take selfies, play musical instruments and eat their favourite foods. For the treatment to be effective, the orthodontist will require your teen to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day.

Invisalign teen can be beneficial to treat mild to moderate complexity conditions like:

  • Mild- moderate crowding
  • Spaced dentitions
  • Mild deep bites
  • Mild crossbites
  • Underbites
  • Open bites

The clear benefits for the whole family are:

  • Better oral hygiene. The aligner can be removed for effective tooth brushing.
  • Can be easily removed for contact sports and playing wind instruments.
  • Digital planning allows for more precise and predictable results.
  • Discreet and clear aligners which are difficult to notice.
  • No diet restrictions.
  • Less emergencies.

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to gradually straighten teeth over a period of time. It has become increasingly popular among patients who feel self-conscious about visible orthodontic appliances.

Benefits of Invisalign at Park Lane Orthodontics

  • We are Diamond Apex Invisalign Providers - the top 1% of dentists in the UK.
  • Aesthetically discreet, enabling self-conscious patients to access treatment
  • Comfortable and easy to remove for eating
  • Patients are assessed for all potential options by a specialist orthodontist

Our specialist orthodontist, Dr Ben Buffham, is highly skilled in providing in-depth diagnoses. He will assess whether your orthodontic issues, such as bite problems, spacing or overcrowding, can be effectively treated with Invisalign. While Invisalign is suitable for most people, it may not be the best option for complex or multi-disciplinary cases.

Only a Specialist Orthodontist will be able to make the appropriate recommendation.

There is a simple step process to begin your Invisalign journey:

1. Consultation

During the consultation, we will assess your concerns, wants and needs. We will also take a 3D digital scan and photos to provide you with a potential before-and-after view of what your teeth will look like after Invisalign treatment.

2. ClinCheck

In this appointment, we will show you a more accurate and detailed projection of your tooth movement, including the number of attachments needed and any space requirements. This can be done remotely.

3. Fit

Once the Clincheck is approved, we will manufacture the aligners within 2-3 weeks. A series of aligners will be fitted to start moving your teeth. We will then schedule regular appointments to monitor the progress of your smile creation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Invisalign uncomfortable?
Your teeth may be tender for 3-5 days each time you progress to the next aligner. It may take a few days to get used to this. If necessary, painkillers such as the ones you normally take for headaches may help (always read the instructions). If possible do not stop wearing the brace or you will have to go through the 3-5 days of discomfort again.
Yes, you will be able to eat normally. The aligner will need to be removed for eating and drinking. Please brush your teeth after every meal to ensure no food particles are trapped in the aligners afterwards, as this can lead to tooth decay. If you have attachments then it is best to avoid hard and sticky foods to prevent them from breaking and complicating the treatment progress. You are required to wear your aligners a minimum of 22 hours per day. It is important you follow these instructions in order for the treatment to work effectively.
Your speech may be different over the first few days after the fit of the initial aligner. Practice speaking with the aligner in place so your speech will return to normal. You may also find you produce extra saliva. This is common and will quickly pass.
Please continue to maintain good oral hygiene whilst opting for Invisalign treatment. Brush your teeth 3 times a day for at least 3 minutes using fluoride toothpaste. Use a daily alcohol-free fluoride mouthwash at least 20 min after brushing. Make sure your gums are nice and healthy by brushing them at the same time as brushing your teeth.
Clean your aligner using your toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste every time you take it in and out. Once a week use RETAINER BRITE provided by your orthodontist-follow the instructions on the box. Always put the aligners into the box provided if you are not wearing them. Placing them into your pocket or a tissue will only result in the aligners being lost or damaged which will incur a replacement charge.
You will need regular appointments, usually every 4-6 weeks, at our practice in Reading to monitor your progress. It is important you still have checkups and hygiene appointments (every 3-6 months) with your regular dentist throughout your treatment. Your orthodontist will not be checking your teeth for decay or gum disease.
Please call us immediately for an emergency appointment. Please note that there will be a charge and possible delay of the treatment.
You are required to change your aligners every 2 weeks. It is best to do this at night time before you go to sleep. Each aligner is trimmed by hand so if you find a rough area this can be gently polished using a nail file. Each Invisalign aligner is engraved with the stage number on the molar teeth (e.g. U02 meaning upper aligner number 2). Ensure the aligner is seated down correctly over all of your teeth. Do not bite your aligners into position as this may damage them.
