Orthodontics for kids
At Park Lane Orthodontics, we specialise in helping children on their journey towards a healthy smile. We understand that orthodontic treatment can be a significant milestone in a child’s life, which is why we’re here to make it an exciting and positive experience.
You may not think that orthodontic treatment is something you need to consider for your child until they become a teenager. However, early intervention is crucial when it comes to orthodontic care for children. By addressing orthodontic issues at a young age, we can guide the growth and development of your child’s teeth and jaw, preventing potential problems in the future.
Paediatric orthodontics
In the UK, due to the constraints of the NHS and waiting lists, it is common to only have a single period of orthodontic treatment between the ages of 12-18 years. However, there is a significant number of children missing out on paediatric orthodontics. Children can benefit from treatment in their childhood and again during their teenage years. This is called two-phase treatment.
We would like to see children as early as 8 years of age. This is so that we can identify those that would greatly benefit from early orthodontic treatment.

What parents usually ask us
Isn't seven too young for braces?
Will my child need braces twice?
How much does children's orthodontic treatment cost?
How often will we need to come in?
Book a complimentary screening, ages 10–17
If your child is between 10 and 17, our complimentary screening is a relaxed first look at whether treatment would help. They’ll see one of our orthodontic therapists and then a treatment coordinator, and we’ll take a scan, photographs and an x-ray. Those go to our specialist orthodontist, Dr Shivani Patel, who reviews them and advises on the next steps. It’s also a chance to see the practice and meet the orthodontic team.
